Hi Everyone,
I'm new to this forum but ive kept my own ex-batts for about a year now. I was just wondering if anyone new when the red mites will start to die out? does it have to get really cold or will they start about now? couldnt control them at all. anyone know a good product for next year?

Welcome to the mad house.

You get more mites in the winter as the birds are immobile on there perches for longer.

You need to get rid of mite NOW not next year.

I would suggest you wash out your coup with concentrated solution of Jeyes Fluid.
Scrub.
The red mite live in the cracks and under the perches.
If you can remove your perches remove them and wash.
Use diatom on your birds
Fill all cracks with painters chalk that dries hard.
Paint the inside of the coop once dry with paraffin.

when we had red mite we invested in some poultry shield, it is realy great all red mite gone after 2nd application.Now we spray the house every other week with a weaker solution just in case
