Over the years I've tried loads of different ways of labelling plants. For starting things off indoors, I have found that strips of margarine pot lids and permanent marker will do the trick, but once outside they fade in next to no time. If anyone has any tried and tested (and free!) methods to recomend, I would be interested to hear them.

Well not free but pretty cheap - I use standard white plastic  lolly stick labels and write on them in pencil. The pencil seems to remain visible OK and next year I just use a rubber to re-use them,
