White spots on potatoes
« on: July 18, 2012, 13:36 »
I have one raised bed 1m x 1m with new potatoes (first earlies), at home. I pulled out a plant to check for size on sunday evening as the top growth had started to wilt (the flowers had been on a couple of weeks ago) and the spuds had wee white spots on them, the soil was rather wet -even though the raised bed was made with topsoil about 3yrs ago - the raised beds are on top of the heavy clay in our back garden so I presume that the excess rain hasn't drained away. The question is - are the white spots a problem? they did just wipe away from the thin skin on the spuds. Is it just that the spuds are too wet or too long in the ground?

I often have those on mine and they're nothing to worry about.
They're called swollen lenticels, it happens in wet weather ;)

Is there an ointment for this, can I get it on prescription or do I have to have a sex-change?
I work very hard so don't expect me to think as well.

You'd be better off starting a topic in design and construction for that kind of question ;)
