Glass or Polycarbonate
« on: January 05, 2020, 14:29 »
Hello all

Just after some advice before I purchase a greenhouse - it will be on my allotment site which can get a little windy.  Will a base be ok to keep it secure my initial plan was to secure it to breeze blocks also do I go toughened glass or polycarbonate - which is best & the most secure?

Thanks
Marie

I've  started to replace the broken glass in the greenhouses with toughened glass but then our greenhouses are in the back garden not on the allotment so I would really think hard about using polycarbonate or something similar if the wind is going to be a problem

the last thing you need is to find  the wind has blown out your glass when you've set up your greenhouse and the main thing is to anchor the greenhouse I mite even consider putting a scaffold net over the greenhouse we had some of our plot holders buy little polytunnels and we found the ones put near the hedge  the hedge acted as a wind break but the ones erected on the open plot exposed to the elements suffered wind damage

anyway good luck with the greenhouse whatever glass you decide to use hope this reply helps

Yes thank you - I did suggest to my husband that in winter we could put some windbreaks around some how

will be leveling and putting slabs down to secure it to
