i've read no citrus too.. might have been here though.
the warm layers sounds lovely especially for winter. do you put your hens veggies in it Aunt Sally? Made with milk or just water? I have porridge and was planning to make this for them with warm water as a 'warmer' in the afternoons, they have corn at the moment.

perhaps  high quality layers mash instead of pellets, you could mix a little catfood in that. It could be because in the cages thats what they would have been used too.

I give my hens warm moist layers mash every afternoon, they love it and you can put all sorts of goodnes into it.

Rob I was told never to give hens citrus fruit !

Mash 5 parts
Boiling water 3 parts
Bird seed, mixed corn sunflower seeds and a few meal worms, about half a handful between the two hens.  You can add poultry spice, vitamins, limestone flour, cod liver oil, cat food - whatever you think they need at any time. They love it and it's GOOD for them

Hi!!

Update for today....i tried Maggie with cat food last night but she really didnt want it.  I managed to get her to eat a few worms and a little wet chick crumb before bed time.

I have been out for most of the day but before i went out she drank well again and also had some wet chick crumb.

Got back this afternoon and her improvement is good although she is still not a well chuck  

She has eaten bit of wet chick crumb, wet seeded bread, lettuce, cress, strawberry and grass     i am so pleased that she is at least showing an interest in food and she is also still drinking well.

The winter recipe looks great Aunt Sally, will make a note of it...Just hope i dont get mixed up and feed it to my OH

Does what you feed the girls affect the taste of the eggs?

Just thinking about the effect cat food would have on the flavour.

My instinct would say no, but I stand to be corrected.  

If it does, I'll try a bit of curry powder. Mmmm.
