Boiled Egg Water
« on: April 17, 2009, 23:44 »
Apologies in advance if it wasn't here, but I can't remember where I saw it

Someone somewhere was advocating the use of water that eggs had boiled in - for deterring slugs I think, but wouldn't swear.
Whatever it was, it sounded good at the time.

Either way, does anyone know what I'm talking about and if so, can you please elaborate?
Thank you  :)

Well, it's certainly a new one one me.. Do you remember if  it has to be hard boiled, or soft...?

I know that boiled egg water is very good for houseplants but I haven't heard about using it to deter slugs, crushed egg shells can be used to good effect though!
There is no better show of antisipation than a man sowing seeds in a field.

Was mentioned in the frugal part of my OH's Take a Pick I think.  Use the water for plants as it is rich in protein from the eggs.  The shell can be broken up and used to deter slugs.

My nan swears by boiled egg water as a deterrent for all sorts (slugs, ant's etc) because she adds vinegar to the water to stop the eggs cracking.

I also add vinegar to the water to stop the eggs cracking.  Does that still make it ok to pour on plants?  Or are we talking about around the sides of the plants?

What do you do with the barbed wire once you have shot it?
