Title: When can I plant out sweetcorn seedlings?
Post by: Oscar Too on April 30, 2007, 13:26
Well, both the pot sown and the chitted sweetcorn seedlings have done well, with the chitted ones catching up very quickly when I put them into pots.  Will be chitting in future.

When will they be big enough to withstand mollusc attack?  The largest are about 6 inches now - is that big enough to plant out?  I've lost too many to slugs, and there's too much male pride and "look woman - man grow sweetcorn, feed you" riding on this.

Thanks for that

It's more a question about the height and size of the sweetcorn seedlings than one about the weather.  I really don't want to lose them to slugs, so was wondering whether they ever become invulnerable, or whether I need to put us some sort of barrier.

I think I'll plant them this weekend and use lots of repellent.  I need the space, apart from anything else.
