What is growing in my water butt ?????

Hubby lifted the lid to our full water butt the other evening. Floating on top was a horse poo (which our kind neighbour put in there a while back).
Now, coming out of this piece of poo is lots of stringy bits with some sort of large maggot thing at the end of them all wriggling around. Pretty much made me sick, replaced the lid & haven't looked in since. It has been bothering me though, I said to my Hubby maybe the heat has made them grow & it's a tape worm or something which was living in the poo.
Anyone else have any idea what this strange thing is?

I don't think I could ignore it, knowing the thing was still there festering in the waterbutt. You should try and sort it out now otherwise it might try and make friends with you

OMG that pic is gross! I didn't get close enough to see it in detail..... I will try opening the lid up & get a picture..... I know you all want to see it really!

Least my imagination is good, i was thinking tapeworm & worrying about taking the lid off to find 10 foot vile things greeting me.

Will have a look tomorrow & report back as to my findings. If they haven't pulpated (right word??)
