Growing Carrots

Hi,
Im new to growing veg but I love it and have a few things growing,my potatoes are doing really well and flowering, when do I lift them and how can I store them??
Also I would like to have a go at growing some carrots,can i grow them in big tubs or car tyres like my potatoes?

You could try one potato plant and see what is under it, if they still look a bit small leave the rest for a bit longer.
I am growing my carrots in a tub that is stood on an upturned bucket to fool those carrot fly.

I lifted  a plant yesterday (Deseree) and they are ok but would benefit from a few more weeks, ideally wait until the flowers have died. Just keep an eye out for slug damage on the potatoe :wink:

Desiree are a main crop potato & for the best crop should ideally be left until the foliage dies back before lifting.
Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?

Before giving advice on your spuds we could do really knowing what variety they are.

Thanks to everyone for the tips.the potatoes that I have are just called patio potatoes and are flowering very well. The others are Desiree and were planted a bit late but are catching up.

Other plot holders on the site are harvesting theirs now due to slug damage :wink: , i'd rather harvest them early than wait until the slugs get at them
