I sowed some butternut squash seeds & some Turks head turban on the 14th in paper pots & so far not a sign of germination.  Any ideas?

I sowed my courgettes on 16th & they are only just coming through. I've found squash can take a little longer.

Where do you have them?
Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?

Agree, you could be worrying too soon, try a little bottom heat if you can and do not over water, keep damp but not wet.

mine went in at the same time as the pumpkin and the courgette on the sunny windowsill and germinated a couple of days after the former.
can't remember how long it was in total.

Germinate them in the airing cupboard with a propagator – then take them out and uncover on a windowsill or in the greenhouse. Don’t over water them at this stage.

Courgettes will come up first, then generally I find the bigger the seed the longer the germination time. I have Butternut and Turks Turban also, the Butternut were up after a couple of weeks, still waiting on the Turks Turban.

Don’t worry if they take a while longer to come up.

Multi purpose compost in 3" cells, keep 'moist' put on kitchen windowsill (North facing) temperature 60-70Deg. 7 days later, hey presto! no foil, no bottom heat, no fuss.... ;) :)
Already starting to think of ways of killing those damb courgettes though. :D
Life begins... On the kitchen windowsill.

I don't have a propogator but I do have an airing cupboard, might they do better in there, just in their trays with a sheet of glass on top?  It's generally pretty warm in there - well obviously, as it's an airing cupboard doh!  ATM they are under glass on a sunny window sill but it's not a warm room, I've turned the heating up in there because I thought it might be too cool for them.  I hope they come up, this germination thing is so hit and miss  ???

I have never found the marrow family hard to germinate.

if they're under glas on a windowsill, they'll be fien.

i always put mine on a windowsill and water when the compost feels dry.
it won't be long.

i wouldn't put them in the airing cupboard because they'll go leggy.

I have 3 butternut squash seedlings coming up but no turks head turban yet so maybe I was just impatient  :) Hope the rest come up though now I've turned the heating up a bit.

Take them out of the airing cupboard as soon as they germinate and no problem with leginess. Agree that a windowsill should be warm enough, if it doesn’t work then try a bit more heat with the airing cupboard.
