Hi everyone just wondering if anyone knew about growing pumpkins / butternut squashes (BNS) in containers?

The idea i have stupid as it sounds is too put a few squashes in a plant pot about 2 feet deepish and let the pumpkin/ BNS grow out of the containers and spread along the floor.

Would this work? Or is it just a silly notion?

Any other ideas would be most be welcome and many thanks for reading this post. I'm hoping to grow these so that i have a supply of organic food over the winter period. Self sufficiency an all that hard work but so rewarding just trying out new things and asking silly questions.

Sorry for the rant

Thanks all

I grow them in containers and they're fine. Needs to be big though.  I used builders rubble sacks, old dustbins and planted them in the top of the dalek compo bins (filled with manure) You can use rubbish sacks filled with poo as well if you've no containers  :D
