I've just collected some ex commercial hens straight from the farm as they are all off to slaughter tomorrow
They have some feather loss but not as bad as I anticipated. Combs are very pale.
They dont seem at all bothered by human contact, which is a good thing because I think we will be putting them to bed until they settle.
They havent ventured very far, only a couple of feet but they are scratching and digging holes.
The first job is to get them wormed and treated for mites as a precautionary. Hopefully their feathers will regrow.

they will grow back and their combs will redden up - now where are the photos? :)

New feathers are coming through, just hope they dont get plucked out again.
So far they have settled in well and are going in at night on their own.
I'm pleased to say they are very quiet, but i've been lucky that all of my chickens have been quiet.
From the 3 of them i'm getting 2 eggs one day and 3 eggs the next day. I'm sure that will slow down over the next 6 months as they were a year old when I got them.

Very rewarding - well done you :)
