Chicken laying a fluid/liquid instead of an egg
« on: April 10, 2024, 10:01 »
I have had the chicken on the left in the first two photos below apprx two months and she has been laying fine (5/6 times a week) until about a week ago when she stopped laying eggs and started producing a fluid instead, as also shown in the photos below. She has passed a soft partial shell once which was broken I assume by her after she had laid it.

The fluid is the same consistency and appearance as you would see when whisking an egg to make an omelette.

She is walking, eating, drinking fine, her mannerisms have not changed and I believe she is just under a year old.

Any ideas? I have had a scour on the 'net' but can't seem to find this exact scenario.

Have you seen her pass this fluid out or just found it afterwards?  If she is laying soft shell eggs they could be eaten (membrane and all) and what you are describing is just the leftovers after they have both had a go.

I did wonder if that might be happening, (the eating), however we now appear to be back to normal as she has laid twice since the OP albeit a bit calcified and striated of which I am not particularly bothered about at the moment as she appears fine, poo included but maybe a bit runny. Her poo is the 1st photo, 2nd photo is the other ones.

She has possibly had some minor illness or upset and that has disrupted the egg laying process.  They instinctively mask any symptoms or injuries until they are really in trouble and can’t keep up the pretence.

If she is OK now or fast getting back to normal then all’s well  :)
