Big pots?
« on: April 15, 2012, 17:51 »
I am looking for some containers to grow in, I also don't want to pay too much!
I have seen 42 Litre trug tub type things in ASDA for £3 with a few holes in they would be good.
I wondered if anyone had any suggestions?

Florists usually give away their buckets or sell them for a few pence.  You could also ask your supermarket for some.

Morrisons in Walderslade sell 9 buckets for 99p they are a good size. Not as big as a trug but handy for all sorts of things
Thanks

Thanks, last year I used a load of builders buckets, but felt they were a bit small for some of the chilli plants, and this year I wanted to go for something bigger.
But I will try the supermarket for those, I can certainly use them!

Did you find any big tubs?  You could try contacting local garden designers/hard landscapers as they often plant BIG trees & shrubs.  I've got some from a tree-planting job my neighbour did a few years ago - they were glad to get rid of them.  They are really sturdy and long-lasting and great for growing things like blueberries in too.

If I need a bit more space for things like chillies, potatoes and tomatoes, I save all my compost bags.  they are black inside, so I turn them inside out and roll the tops over.  Make a few tiny holes in the bottom for drainage, and they pack together quite nicely.

Actually I did buy six of the trug tubs, but now I am wondering if I might just get away with using growbags? or maybe some bags of compost?
As long as they stand up on their own, they don't have to look pretty!
Oh! And I would have to buy the compost anyway.

I have three lime green and three bright orange but they had some lovely pink ones in Tescies last week.  :nowink: Broad beans in one and the rest will be for carrots, squash and cues.  Great for putting 'stuff' in too. :)

The ones I saw were £3 Matt (cheaper than the others I bought on special last year).  :)
