A happy story about my poorly doggy
« on: December 03, 2011, 16:00 »
Last Saturday evening my doggy decided to climb up on my lap and promptly fell asleep.  As he weighs around 7 stone this is a bit unusual.
On Sunday he didn't move all day, so when I got in from work and we tried to get him to stand we realised he couldn't.  We rushed him to the emergency vet who said it didn't look good as he couldn't feel his legs and the only course of treatment possible was steroids but not to get our hopes up.   :(
On Monday after carrying him outside when he needed the toilet etc we started getting ready to say goodbye to him.  (this was the day the gerbil decided to die too :()
On Tuesday he began showing slight signs of improvement.  We took him back to the vet who said as he could feel his feet, although he couldn't stand, to try another couple of days of steroids.
On Thursday he walked into the vet!!  A bit wobbly but a definate walk. She said he had made her day and was able to diagnose that he had experienced a spinal stroke which affected all four legs.
On Friday we decided to take him out, we got him in the car and took him to a nearby field.  He managed 10 minutes before he got tired!
Today we took him out for 15 minutes.  Sorry for the long post but we are so proud of him, until Wednesday we thought we were going to lose him and, although a bit wobbly he's definately walking now!  :D  :D

Today while I was at work Mr Raven took Raven dog out for a walk for 20 minutes - apparently he ran for a little while and only stumbled a couple of times!  :D

Edit: This morning found doggy at the top of stairs! It is good that he feels confident enough, but not taking the risk, off to the stair gate shop I go!!!

we have had to do the same to stop our elderly dog venturing up the stairs after she fell down them once so that is a wise move. Glad Raven Dog is obviously feeling better  :)

Good to hear doggy is on the mend.

Bad time of year to have a sick doggy, my dog as a kid was put down 23rd December, not even 2 years old.  :(

Went to the vet today, it was the same vet we took him to Sunday and she even shed a tear as she was so pleased with how well he's doing.
They are going to keep him on the high meds til after Christmas and new year and then think about reducing them.
