Has anyone used the plastic containers that strawberries, raspberries etc come in from the supermarkets for sowing in? Just sitting here eating cherries & the idea came to me they have drainage holes too ?

I use them to sow salad leaves in, and they are deep enough to grow on in too

I think clear pots are not very good for root growth if the light gets to them , all our cherry punnets get reused for the cherry tomatoes.

Bargin as well. Tesc* are selling raspberries at half price - only £8.85 a kilo, normal price £17.00. (£2 summat for a few poxy berries).

Well worth buying some of their produce to get free containers.

I use deep ones (Aldi pears). Grew all my leeks in them this year and they worked great. They are also good for holding paper pots or toilet roll centres together when planted and helps retain the moisture.

Clear ones, blue, white ....  they all get pressed into service when necessary and all do a good job .... If they havent got holes they are likely to find themselves acting as drainage trays, or there is always my trusty old soldering iron to make the necessary ...   

I also like being able to junk them at the end of a season if they are tatty without my conscience reminding me that I paid good money for that!

One of the local charity shops had large punnets of raspberries 50p a throw.
If i did not have rasp wine, rasp jam and a load of rasps in the freezer i`d have bought a lot myself.
Hard to resist a bargain.

I thought that was a euphemisn much like "afternooon delight" until I remembered that they are raspberries.
