Wrong Seeds
« on: April 13, 2015, 20:49 »
Evening All,

Has anyone had seed recently that is not what it says on the packet?

Brought some T&M beetroot boltardy, prepared the ground ready to sow, when l opened the packet they turned out to be Winter Squash "Sunshine" F1.

Best bit looking at there website they dont even sell "Sunshine" F!.

Have emailed T&M over a week ago still waiting for a reply.

I sowed 4 Green Zebra seeds last year and got 4 different varieties of tomato, none of which were Green Zebra. All were tasty though! Wish I knew which varieties they actually were  :D

Last year I grew some Monarch celeriac from Mr. Fothergill's, it was a free packet with a magazine.   I only sowed 4 on account of space issues, but 2 of them turned out to be celery.

Best of luck with T+M - they can be a bit tardy in replying. Personally I would phone them and ask for someone in charge as they are in breach of contract. Tell them that as it might just make them jump a bit but don't accept any vouchers!!
I work very hard so don't expect me to think as well.

Premier Seeds list year their climbing french beans were dwarf - and a different colour (labelled as the climbing variety I ordered)

This year they sent me the wrong variety of Sweetpeas (i.e. labelled differently on the packet - no idea yet if the ones I have sown will turn out to b e what I ordered of course!)

They have no barcodes on (most of) their packets, so there is no opportunity for them to re-scan using a barcode reader to check that the picker picked the right ones for the order (which is how mail order companies normally double check the order)

Funny T&M sent me a reply today saying that they will send me a replacement packet if l give them my address
which was on the first email l sent them, and can l give them the Lot number, there is nothing on the packet that
states its a lot number, so sent them another photo of the back of the packet.
(See what you mean Goosegirl)
The email they sent me stated Dear Sir/Madam, so as they are sending out a standard letter l assume this must happen on a regular bases! :(

Well after three emails from Thompson & Morgan saying that they were sending me replacement, two weeks on and l am still waiting for my packet of replacement beetroot seeds, looks like l wont be having any beetroot this year and l wont be buying from them next year.

See what you mean Goosegirl, but "tardy" is to polite.

As I said before, give them a ring and ask to speak to a manager as they are currently in breach of contract. It's not good enough to delay you and yes - tardy was polite - but I don't want to go on the norty step!

Just had a thought - did you pay by credit card? If so, let the card company know and get your money back.

I bought some bean seeds, some turned out flat, some round!  Both tasted ok!

My dad grew a rogue parsnip in with his carrots!  Hardly crime of the century though when there's so many seeds in a packet!  I believe the one and only parsnip was enjoyed!

H :)
