Sorry to hear that mrs chook.  It might be worth giving the breeder a ring in case they have more knowledge on what is wrong.

did you do a bedding change after taking to the vets.
Remove straw/shavings just in case and haveplanty of newspaper, both flatten opened and ripped up. Is there ventation on the house,is it open. Have a good look inside the house for mould and use white paper in the cracks checking for red mite.
Wave a hand in front of the eyes to check for blindness.

Its a shame she has taken a turn for the worse. Try and keep her eating & drinking. If you can get hold of some Avipro Plus which you can mix into water or feed, this has lots of nutrients & probiotics to help them through times like this (I got mine from the vets or you can get it online).

Have you managed to start worming her yet?

Fingers crossed she improves again

I'm so sorry, it's sounds like you have had a destressing few days.

I would start a new thread about the flubenvet doseage.  It would be useful to know how people make sure their hens get the correct amount.

So sorry to hear about Bea.   :(

The dosage will depend on what flubenvet percentage you have, either the 1% or 2.5%.

For the 1% mix 6g (one level measure, which is supplied) to 2kg of pellets.

For the 2.5% mix 6g to 1kg of pellets.  http://chat.allotment-garden.org/index.php?topic=70506

That is very sad news. I have only just joined and I am new to keeping chickens myself I have 4. I have been reading your post as one of mine seems to be off colour. She has been laying up till this last week but has suddenly appeared to be depressed all of a sudden and is not her normal self and has started sitting a lot and puffs up, she has also started doing a strange movement with her neck and head (like stretching up and to the side and down again) I wondered did your hen do this also mine is eating/drinking/pooping but is more quieter than normal and is not joining in with the others as much as she has been I have checked her over only thing I have noticed is her comb is not as bright and big as the others do you think this is possible she may have same type of symptoms as Bea ? thank you  :(

Hi Julie09, you don't say what breed and how old your hens are.  If you haven't wormed them in the last 3 months with flubenvet it would be best to do all of your hens.  They can suffer from gapeworm which would cause some of the symptoms you describe.  They do naturally stretch their necks to pass food from the crop to the stomach so that might be what you are seeing.  Their comb will lose size and colour when they are off lay or unwell.  This could be due to a bird molting or something could be wrong with it.  Check her over for any signs of unwanted visitors and that she is not too thin.  Check her eyes and nostrils are clear and not runny.  Also check she does has an empty crop on a morning in case she has a blockage or sour crop (her breath will be smelly).   ;)
