Hozelock waterer
« on: September 23, 2009, 10:12 »
I have a nearly new Hozelock waterer - it connects to a hose and has an arched chrome pipe  with holes in which moves backwards and forwards automatically covering a wide area. The pipe on mine has stopped moving although I can move it freely by hand.  I guess it's muck in from a dirty hose.
Can I flush it out. I took an ident one to pieces some time ago and couldn't get it back together. Can they be flushed out?

maybe get a pressure washer hose on the end being very careful. you know sprinklers waste a lot of water.

"Can I flush it out"

I have a plug that I can remove from the far end, I think it is supposed to be so that the water is got out before the frost, but it would enable a flush-through.

There is also a mesh filter on the inlet side ...

... but I'd be surprised if you got gunk in the mains that could clog it up?

Maybe its water scale?

There is usually an adjustment knob that lets you set how wide the covered area is - has that got positioned at a "don't move" setting perhaps?

"you know sprinklers waste a lot of water."

Mine doesn't, the water goes where I want it to go, and is on a timer so only stays on for only as long as I want it to :)

Didn't think of scale where do you live. If your in a hardwater area soak it in some vinger overnight then give it a good rinse.

The sprinkler is being used to water newly sown grass in chicken runs.Grass is just germinating and will die without water.
I have washed out sprinkler and there is no obstruction. Filter is clear. I have tried short hose pipe to ensure maximum pressure. I don't have hard water. I have put WD40 on moving parts and still the d***** thing won't  move on it's own. Any other ideas. Device is about 12 months old and has had little use.

You didn't mention it specifically, but I expect you have checked it:

Is there an adjustment knob that sets the "width" of the spray pattern? has that been set to the same for Left and Right such that its all-in-one-place with no oscillation?
