Oh well the weather as finally broke again in staffordshire  ive spent the day transplanting my tomato seeds they still need to grow on yet but when is the best time to plant them out in the greenhouse by the way the greenhouse is not heated many thanks dave.

Ahem, rather than start a new thread I'd like to ask when is the best time to plant tomatos outdoors.

Also, I potted up 8 tomato plants but within 3 days they had turned brilliant white and very dead. Anyone know what could have caused this?

not sure why they would go white jake were they indoors ?
i plant mine outside early june with no protection and in the greenhouse with no heat around mid may,

That's a new one on me too, Jake. Do you have cats that like to wee where they shouldn't? Or did you put them in direct sunlight anywhere? Other than asking what you transplanted the seedlings into (used or new potting mix) I'm stumped as well.  :?

Well I used new good quality potting compost and kept them in a conservatory environment. BUT, I potted them outside and as it was such a lovely day I left them outside the whole day, in direct sunlight.

I really thought they'd like that, I moved them inside at about 5pm ish.

Also they were an heirloom variety of red cherry, dunno if that means anything, I grew them successfully last year.

I'm sure the cat wasn't involved although her foot print is the concrete in the new cellar floor. :evil:
