how long does ot take for the pecking order to be sorted?? as my new hen Flo is being pecked by gert and should i stop gert from doing this???
i have noticed some feather loss on flo neck area which is where gert has been pecking do i need to put any thing   on it ??? sorry for the questions but im concerned for Flo
need all the help i can get and not just with my allotment

Chickens are a bit like humans in as much as they quickly settle down in each others company, but as in life, you will occasionaly get some stroppy * that never give up and know their place.
I keep a particularly aggressive breed that can be almost impossible to socialise. If your hen is only having a little feather loss, then I wouldn't be too concerned. I've had hens virtually scalped by another hen and actually killed. If the unrest is only manifesting itself by a bit of feather pecking, then they should soon settle down. Even in a settled community there will be a little figting from time to time as the pecking order is re enforced.
