what green manure to plant now?
« on: March 04, 2010, 21:36 »
hi all, i started with a bare plot last year and got most of it dug over ready for this year, i have just realised that the bed i had down for leeks is going to be mostly empty untill they are ready for transplanting later in the year, so what green manure can i plant now so it will be ready to be dug in just before the leeks go in?

thanks all
first year grower

To maintain good crop rotation Phacelia could be a good bet - It's not a legume or brassica and can be sown (in theory) in March.

Here's a useful section on this site : http://www.allotment-garden.org/fertilizer/green-manures.php

and another external one : http://www.greenmanure.co.uk/sow_help.htm
