Looks like the red lily beetle to me.. also known as the asiatic lily beetle.  I had problems with these a couple of years ago, they absolutely decimated the lillies in my garden.

Had loads earlier in the year and squashed 'em all  ::)

squashing is only effetive method to remove,  bug sprays don't seem to touch them as they're tougher little b*****ers.  If they sence danger - a person approaching - they just drop to teh ground and hide until safe to emerge and start chomping again.   I have had to stop growing lillies as they just strip them.

I came across a beetle like this earlier this week.though its head was red just like its body.Never seen a red coloured beetle before. My o/h thought it might have been a blood sucker but after looking for pics on the net they seem to be a more brownish colour. It looked menacing,so i quised it just to be on the safe side. :unsure: Just hope it was not a rare species.

Lily beetle - kill them.  They will eat your lillies.
