rotten garlic cloves
« on: March 09, 2014, 13:49 »
Hi all,

I just pulled the garlic bulbs (Solent Wight) apart that I received from Dobies of Devon, and one of the two bulbs contained a significant proportion of rotten cloves.

Have the bulbs just been stored wrongly, or am I risking introducing some kind of rot into my beds if I plant the rest of these cloves?

Thanks for any advice,

Michael.

I have planted a few cloves that had some green mold on them and they grew, but if the mold is a majority factor, then I'd contact the supplier for some replacements.  In the UK there has been significant onion and garlic rot disease but suppliers are very careful about this. Likely yours is just plain mold from poor storage.
