Title: New Greenhouse No glass!
Post by: carlrmj on May 11, 2012, 17:40

Hi, a friend of mine has just bought a 8x6 Aluminium greenhouse frame only.

There is no glass with it (I'm not convinced it's a bargain)

Any idea how much it would cost to cover it with

1)Horticultural glass

2)Acrylic

3)polycarbonate

There's also the cost of clips etc

Thanks Carl

I don't think it will be a bargain if glass-glazed, mainly because for fairly obvious reasons horticultural glass is not the sort of thing it's easy to buy at a big discount by mail-order. My 8X6 has somewhere around 65 2'X2' panes of glass, some of which were cut to shape first, and the current price per standard sheet seems to be around £4-£5 if you're lucky.

Your friend is much more likely to find a better deal on Acrylic or polycarbonate sheeting, although he/she will need to read up about securely fixing this type of material judging by some recent posts on these forums.

My friend has just ordered polycarbonate sheeting for her 8x6 greenhouse from b&q for

89.99.

I was expecting it to be a lot more
