beak bit warning
« on: January 24, 2011, 14:46 »
Hi All
Just thought I would let you know how I got on with my feather pecking prob....... I fit a bumper bit last week and the following day said hen was v sulky - fine - I thought let's see if she gets used to it. I left it on for 4 days but had to remove it as she wasn't feeding or drinking. I was then informed by a DEFRA member that these are becoming illegal - does anyone else know about this and has anyone had the same problem. Yes the bit was put on properly as per the instructions.....

Staffies are softer than you think.

No they're not the same - the ones I was reccommended were called bumper bits they fit in the nostrils the same but protude out from the beak (hence bumper??) and it was this part that obviously prevented the bird from feeding.
