« on: April 01, 2011, 20:39 »

I recently bought a 6 x 5 shed from these guys http://www.atlassheds.co.uk/ delivery, installation, lock, alarm etc etc all included in the pretty reasonable price... and after we discovered there was no base under the shed we took down, only a very ex-cat (long story), they did a base for me too.  It's in place now and it's solid and well built enough.

Admittedly I'm not an experienced buyer of sheds but I'm really pleased with mine.

:)

EDIT:

Just seen you're in Surrey and somewhat out the delivery area... sorry

Have a look at B&Q.  This weekend they have 20% off all purchases over £100.

I have been looking at the new plastic ones in B and Q. They come with the base and with or without a window. If you take a pensioner with you on wednesdays you get another 10% off. They were under 200 but aare now just over.

They have locks etc and no need to paint yearly

Yes it is. :)

But not the extra 10% I'd guess as pensioners are hard to scan and email.

I bought the 10 x 6 version of this.

http://www.shedstore.co.uk/wooden-garden-sheds/windsor-sheds/value-shiplap-apex-64/windsor-value-shiplap-apex-garden-shed-6-by-4

for the money it is a really solid shed.   You will want to put it on a decent base to get it off the ground, and I would recommend plenty of preservative, but mine is quite solid.

It looks like they'll throw in 5L of preservative for free as well.

Hope it helps

I can't remember the name of the company, but a few people I know have bought their sheds from a company in RIPLEY Surrey. It's a large place with a load of sheds on show, and they don't sell tat.
I'll pop off and see if I can find the name of the place.....

Edit.

Barretts, apparently. :)

Personally I'd research your local shed builders/suppliers, and stay clear of the likes of B&Q. I ended up travelling 15 miles to check a stockist, then ordered straight from the supplier. Paid I think around £260 for a 8x6 including a base

Do not underestimate the value of a decent base - the installers/erectors made a comment "ah, you've got a base pack as well... okay, well, you'll be good for 15 years then".

thanks for all the replies, much appreciated

I laid a slab base on the plot today (what a glorious day!) & spent some time getting it nice & level - there are some entertainingly skewiff shed on the site & it's a brand new site this year!  I'm also planning on giving the base of the shed an extra coat of preservative before I assemble it

for a small shed I would get hold of a stack of pallets and build one myself, or buy some timbr and build one, but recycled pallets or packing cases cant be beaten for price if you can scrounge them for free. I once built an 10x6 foot shed from old aluminium double glazing section packing crates that came in 6m long lengths in wooden packing crates - the company were having trouble getting rid of them and only too happy for someone to take half a lorry load away.

thanks anyway :)  what's an ex-cat?

It's a lot like the ex-parrot!

Sadly we found the remains of a kitty under there, it must have been under there for years and years though.  :(

Good luck with the new shed ...
