Hi there
Noob here. I was wondering whether it was a good idea (or not) to mix chickens of different sizes, and if anyone had experience of this.
ie bantams and hybrids in the same coop/run

If you put them all in at the same time you should have no problem, just a bit of squabbling while they sort out the pecking order

we have bantam and full size, no problems, very complex with the pecking order, but no problems all together.

hey  ladypluck,

we have a silkie, a black rock, brown sussex and partridge wyandotte.  they get along ok, we got them all together so thy already knew each other they just ad o sort the peckin order out when thy got yome  andafter three weeks they are just aboutbsorted.  they still sqaubble from time to time specially whenbthey are hungry but other than that they are great together.  i think if yoou want them just for egg production you are probably better off with all the same breed but ifbthey are pets too havijg lots of different ones gives you something o look at too, plus you get lots of different eggs.

we wondered exactly the sme hing whn we were setting up and obviously came to the vonlusion that  few differen ones would be nice, and clearly they have prove us right

I have another question, I can't seem to find the answer to....If I were to do some baking, and used an average bantam egg, say from a Pekin, how many would be equal to your average medium egg on the supermarket shelf?

it recommends using two bantam eggs per hen egg.  try searching on ask, i put this phrase in, how many bantam eggs to use when cooking, i got quite a few good results.
