allotment path
« on: July 26, 2019, 22:26 »
Hi
Posting is proving a challenge - maybe best not on my mobile.
Meanwhile any suggestions for a permanent path on my new allotment. I’m 68 and penniless so please keep it modest!
Chippings are available on site and I already dry and burn the nasty weeds.

Edit to clarify title for search purposes

I am finding weed control fabric, something like 1.5-2 meters wide folded over, makes good path material. It heavily suppresses weed growth (you get some at the edges) and you can walk on it easily even in wet weather. Get some metal pegs to hold it in place and you're good to go. It should last at least a couple of years if not longer.

If you cover it with wood chippings it lasts a very long time... mine is ten years old and still going strong! the woodchip does mulch down, and can be topped up, eventually giving you the bonus os some rather good copost ready to  dig off the paths befpre starting again with new unrotted woodchip

I use cardboard. I can get it for free from supermarkets etc and so I can just keep topping it up. I can not get free wood chips and I can not afford the high prices tree surgeons now want to charge me to take away their rubbish, I also find the fabric is too expensive for my budget.
