I would try a good mulch of fym first 

I've nothing useful to add to this thread but I'm curious. What does this post actually mean? Am I bring a bit thick (again)?

I don't have a solution either, but then, I'm foreign. 'fym', It could be an exclamation of sorts...

Farmyard manure JohnB47 (many of us are guilty of using abbreviations from time to time which is why we try to discourage "text-speak" on these forums, although I'm not sure how many people actually text each other about manure these days!    )

Not much harm would come to them if you did it now, if needs be, I personally would advise to do it later in cooler weather and more dormant season.
