Welcome to the site  :D

Location is an important thing to know before it's possible to give a decent answer, but unless you're quite far north, it should be fine.
I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days all attack me at once...

What do you mean by OK?

Bay tree = very tall tree once established = Infringing allotment rules? = not OK

Size should be no problem as they are easy to keep pruned. If you look in Garden centres you can get shaped ones and standard one. If  there is no rush find a bush take a cutting( ask owner first) use rooting compound to start it in a largish pot and then you can choose where to plant it  when its large enough
Taken over neglected veg garden at new home. Enemy number 1 Ground Elder. Then there is the furry terror - bunnies - to contend with!
Made a start have beds established but moved in too late for serious planting. We shall see what 2015 brings.
