After my two broodies sat dutifully on their eggs for 23 days - and none of them hatched, I took advice from the forum :D and went on a mision to source some day old chicks!
Instead, I bought some eggs due to hatch the following day, and the day after that, 7 in total.
I replaced the eggs...and waited....
1 broke under the hen, two turned out to be duds (I candled them before chucking them.)
1 had a dead chick...3 hatched woo hoo!!
The silkie broody attacked the first one, so it had to be dispatched (through a veil of tears)
Silkie was returned to the flock, to leave the pekin to tend to the other two..
Gold plated brahma bantams..don't tell the OH how much I paid for those eggs..but the two chicks are now 4 days old, here are there baby pics... :D

They are!! And Pekie is a very contented mum, which to my mind justifies the madness of the egg search palaver :tongue2:
My hubby and friends think I am MAD!!!
Happy chuck tell me otherwise :D :D (well I think so :tongue2:)
