Title: Vacuum sealers
Post by: New shoot on December 31, 2011, 11:52
Has anyone on here got one of these and if so, what do you think?

OH has seen someone using one to prepare homemade ready meals for camping - he does year round wild wood camping a la Ray Mears.

A decent one is a reasonable investment (£50 ish) so I'm reluctant to say yes if it's an expensive dust gatherer.

Thanks as always for any advice  :)

Got a cheap Lidl one (£20) which is ok but i will invest a bit more on the next one. Vac packing does improve the quality of frozen food.

We got one and its great for stuff for freezing that is a dry product, we bagged up 50lbs of beans in 1lb bags, and the space saving is one of the great things. the expensive part is the bags as they have to be ribbed inside so the air sucks out properly.
But for freezing the produce from the plot they are excellent.
we use a permanent marker to write the contents and date on the bags.

Are the bags reusable?

theoretically, but they get smaller with each use and have to be washed out.
