We have ( maybe ) ducks.

That is after all the angst and spoiled eggs we have one call duck one week from hatch and one muscovy about three weeks from hatch.

Fingers crossed we get there this time

Can you get a warm (not hot) water spray on the call egg??

They are supposidly very tricky to hatch???? Mine came out ok but I did spray twice a day am & pm in the last week :D

Will keep everything crossed for you Cleo

Good luck :D

Keeping everything crossed for you. It's absolutely nerve wracking isn't it
Be like a duck. Calm on the surface but always paddling like the dickens underneath.

Should I really be spraying the call ?

I will if it helps.

I guess it needs to be moist enough to hatch well.

I sprayed mine after advice from Vember having lost a whole hatch (only three but really upsetting as they were my first). Got 3 out of 5 in the next and 10 0f 13 fertile eggs after that. Could just be luck of course but will be doing in the future.

Another thing Ducks do take longer from internal Pip to actually breaking through the shell.

The day before hatch, it might be an idea if you can hear the little un to make a small hole at the aircell end just so they can get extra air whilst getting ready for the great escape.

make sure you candle first so you don't hit baby :D

Well...I'm afraid that the Muscovy ducks didn't make it and the little call made it all the way to internal pip and then died :-(

I am not having very much luck.

The incubator ( cleaned ) is at the correct temp and humidity and I now have some silver appleyards doing nicely 4/6 seem to be fertile at day 5.

I am getting nervous now though as I seem to be death to ducks :-(

Really sorry to hear about your bad luck, I had a very similar experience and it was heart breaking. Mine also internally pipped and then died and I got so excited hearing them cheep in the egg that when they died I burst into tears!

Good luck with the Appleyards. My Appleyard girl, Sally is beautiful.

Thanks guys,

A couple seem to be doing very well. One seems to have a very bizarre air sac on the side rather than the end. I'm guessing that one won't hatch ?

The one with the air sack on the side, is a floating air cell it can be caused during transit ie : post, if the eggs are shaken or can be genetic.

That egg will not hatch. If it were to grown, (which I doubt) it will have problems at hatch time .

I thought the floating air sac would be a problem.

I'll double check the humidity. I have a little covattuto manual. It is basic but usually keeps its temp/humidity well. I have a separate humidity/temp monitor.

All seems well so far. I will remove the egg with the floating air sac.
