I have planted a few runners into pots off of the main plant, after how long do you think I can cut hem away from the main plant as it is hard to tell if they are established?

If you've pegged the runners down, take the peg out and very gently try to lift them, if they are rooted, you will know. When you cut the runner off, cut it at the parent plant end, that way, any goodness left will go to the new plant.

I've done the same and waited until I could see new leaves growing before removing from the parent plant.

Incidentally, what size pots do you leave them overwintering in ? Mine are in 3inch pots, do I need to move them to bigger ones ?

Mine go in 3" pots, sem to be fine.
