I have a tray of sweetpea seedlings that have come up late. They are about four inches high now.

If I plant them into a large planter, I doubt they will flower this year, but what's the chance of them over-wintering for next year?

They are heritage and vintage so I would like to keep them going if possible.

I'd bung 'em in and see what you get anyway - who knows what sort of late summer we'll get (and mine are the same and still need to be planted!).
I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days all attack me at once...

Seems to have been a funny year for sweet peas germinating and getting going. I ended up with three and was going to chuck them, but got around to filling a barrel and planting them with a wigwam support. I can't say they are growing as fast as previous ones, but at least I have some and can't wait for them to flower.
I work very hard so don't expect me to think as well.

If you were thinking about it I suggest you don't pinch out the growing tips - this will save the time the plants take to think about and then grow side shoots (some people don't do it anyway.)
Sow your seeds, plant your plants. What's the difference? A couple of weeks or more when answering possible queries!

My first year with sweet peas, and they are the perennial variety. They are pootling along just fine, took an age to germinate, and don't even get planted out until the Autumn apparently. My only problem is where to site them, as they'll be there for a few years hopefully.
