Title: Rat prevention better than cure
Post by: Wildeone on February 20, 2008, 12:35
Hello everyone there has been a few posts on here about Rats under the chicken coop and i would like some advice.

It may well be a really stupid question but hey ho why break a habit of a life time!

This is my coop and run that i'm collecting tomorrow.

Now do i need to lay a base to stand the hen house on? i.e. concrete slabs, gravel etc etc or can it go straight to grass like my rabbit hutch?

Have a look what Munty posted against my rat problem today.
I have two runs that are on the ground attached to a house on legs, we use these for the Yokahammas as they do not free range. We have put narrow gauge wire underneath and it extends at least 12 inches out on all sides to stop Foxy getting in there. I also weight the top of the run dduring the day when they are out again to stop the fox getting in. In fact all gaps are securley fitted with wire. The mole has made a hill underneath which means he has pushed the wire up but it is still secure

Hope this helps :)
