Flubenvet not mixing properly
« on: February 06, 2011, 11:38 »
Worming the chooks for the second time and I'm using plastic tub from wilko and it's transparent I can see the flubenvet dust at the bottom of the tub I shake the tub and it just ends up at te bottom if I make a mash it would stick but how do I know there will be the correct dose on the pellets and not an overdose the next day ? anyone had this problem.  ?

if you add a drop of oil to the pellets and stir then add the flubenvet it will stick to them  :)
Staffies are softer than you think.

Could I add it now or you think it will make a mess?

I used to have the same problem, but now i use a little codliver oil to mix in with their food and the flubenvet.  This has stoped the flubenvet all dropping to the bottom of the tub.  Give it a go!

You should use corn oil and only add a drizzle to slightly darken the pellets.  Any more and they will break up.

Thanks for that guys I didn't have any corn oil I used cod liver oil in the end just a little bit and it worked a treat. Hillfooter what are the benifits of corn oil for chickens over other types of oil?

I don't suppose it makes much difference really as  you're not using a lot though corn oil being vegatable would be more compatible with pellets than cod liver oil and is cheaper and you are more likely to have some in the kitchen than cod liver oil which no doubt you'd need to get specially from a health food shop.  If you have it to hand there's no reason not to use it.  It's a source of Vit too.
