Thatcher is my Welsummer cockerel who attacked Billy and pecked his eye causing the injury

If you have made Billy and Betty a secure run, does Thatcher have to go?

My 2 lads hurl abuse at each other and fight through the wire if one is out free ranging, but they can't get at each other to do any harm  :)

Hi & thanks  He seems a lot better  He is eating & drinking and generally coping very well. His 'eye' is still swollen and the stitches have not yet dissolved & I gave him the last of the antibiotics last night.  I think it is still early days  but the signs are very good so far!! :)

Just seen this thread and can sympathise wholeheartedly. I had to nurse one of my hens after her eye was pecked by another one and it got horribly infected. I had to treat her with antibiotics for a week (twice a day) but as you say I think when they are so poorly they are very docile and she didn't struggle at all. I also had to bathe her eye with salt water twice a day until all the swelling/infection had gone away.  It took a few more days for her head to reduce back down to its normal size as it was so swollen but now you wouldn't realise that she had been so ill.  She is quite happy with only one eye although in her haste to get to any treats I have to be very careful not to tread on her as she tends to scoot in front of you in the mad dash with the other girls back to the run!
Keep up the good work Prod - you will be very glad that you made the decision when you see him out and about again!  :D
