Sheila, absolutely lovely, thanks for posting - the lillies are stunning, and I love the icelandic poppies and although I've never been a big fan of marigolds you may well have converted me for next year. Do you feed them with anything in particular?

No special feed on the marigolds.  Its four year old compost, chicken pellet fed in about April, which is a couple of months before planting out, and sometimes I feed with comfrey or tomato food but don't always bother.

There your everyday french Marigolds and then there are varieties that look just that bit nicer.  Those are Suttons Jolly Japes, a bit of Queen Sophia and another whose name escapes me. http://www.suttons.co.uk/Gardening/Flowers/Flower+Seeds/Marigold+French+Jolly+Japes+Seeds_121811.htm?sku=121811
These ones have bigger flowers.  I do find I have to dead head them more often than the bog standard ones to keep them looking fresh headed, and vibrant colour.  The only thing I would say is don't plant them out when very small as the slugs eat them. 

Next year I am going to try some French marigold of the durango variety.

The Icelandic poppies were a surprise to me as the old man bought the seed packet thinking they were the same as california poppies.  So I thought don't upset him just plant them.  But I may even do them again they are quite nice.
