When is it ok to plant out my onions? I've grown them from seed and they are in pots. they're about 3" tall but not very thick! is it ok to plant them out? cos I need the space in my greenhouse

If they have at least 3 leaves they should  be OK. If not maybe you should wait, especially while it is so dry. You do not want to loose them now.

Do they need to be in your greenhouse? I took mine out from under the cloche in March, they're growing happily in a seed tray on the slightly shady side of my patio

I planted out my 10 remaining onion seedlings (I managed to kill the others!) a couple of weeks ago.

They continue to just sit there looking neither happy nor sad (but definitely not growing, at least to the naked eye!)   

Spring onions, onions from sets, shallots, leeks, garlic; no problem, but I'll obviously have to go back to school for onions from seeds!

Onions from seed look nothing until Derby Day. Then all of a sudden they are onions.

Derby Day, aka early June. Hey hebridean, whereabouts are you? I can quite understand if you haven't had any dealings with "that England"    then you wouldn't know about it....

ha ha, I'm in the Isle of Harris (western Isles) off the west coast of Scotland. Tough place to grow stuff!
