Hi, has she had any lettuces they give mine the runs but they love it, sometimes a hen does not like to clean a dirty bum and not clean it. So you either wash it and blow dry her or cut the feather away.
is she drinking ok? a cabbage leaf is good for them. poo goes black but lots of iron in it.
If she is going through a moult she would go paler it takes a lot of protine to make feathers a fishy cat food mixed with pellets, oats etc works well it wont hurt the others either.

Well, Chook certainly enjoyed her warm bath yesterday. She sat in a bucket quite happily :D
She isn't egg bound though.

However, I made up some 'chicken booster' recipe today and fed it to all my girls, just incase something is going round!  Sally Chook seems quite bright, tucking in quite happily and doesn't seems quite as pale as yesterday. Maybe thats my hopeful imagination!
Will keep up the booster food all this week, and monitor her closely. So far, so good. If she doesn't seem to continue improving, I'll take her to the vet.

THANK YOU all for your advice, guidance and support.

ps, if anyone is interested, my booster recipe is:

2 tablespoons probiotic yoghurt, 3 tablespoons oats, 1 small grated apple, 1 hard boiled egg yolk (crumbled), 0.5 teaspoon honey and a pinch of multi vitamin powder. Mixed well.
If I'm really generous, they get some sardine or tuna in there too.

Can you pop some in a jar and I'll have it on toast  :D

I hope she perks up. If you notice any other symptoms or if she doesn't improve, a vet may be your best, albeit potentially expensive, option. :)

Hey - it does smell good!, they love it, and so they should. Only for times of distress tho - too damned expensive, and too damned fiddly!!

Vets being expensive is not an issue; I wouldn't see any of my animals suffering.

Will try some cabbage leaf too - thanks for that suggestion, got some sardines aswell.
What spoiled chucks!

Chuck booster seems to be working. Sally chuck doesn't seem as pale, and runs towards me like a banshee when she sees me coming!
Had an egg today too!! ( think that was from Sue tho!)

I am quite happy that she isn't seriously ill, and just needed a little tlc :)
phew!
