I have been looking for Cranberries in the supermarket (fresh or frozen)

There is a distinct lack of them anywhere

Is it possible to grown then in this country ?

If so which is best ?

Plants or seeds ?

I've never seen a cranberry plant or seeds for sale

If I do try them, how low before I would get a crop of them ?

Grow em in pots or the garden ?

What type of soil do they need ?

When do they ned planting ?

Are they winter hardy ?

Any answers/recommendations appreciated

Can’t say I’ve ever seen cranberries for sale this early, I think they’re normally sold a bit closer to that time in December we’re not allowed to mention til the lights go on

I’m not really sure when they go on sale
That’s why I was thinking of growing my ow
I have seen a couple plants for sale on the well known auction website, but when have bought from there, it hasn’t gone well
Seeds never germinated, plants died
I dunno, maybe I killed them with kindness

I’m just wondering if it’s feasabile growing them myself

(I never get the amount of fruit they show in their pictures)

I’m sure I saw plants for sale a couple of days ago, try Pomona fruits or could have been Thompson & Morgan.

There's some information on that website that is correct over there, but not correct over here.  Our native cranberries (Vaccinium macrocarpon) absolutely do grow in bogs. They are cultivated in artificial bogs, but also grow naturally in our native sphagnum bogs (at least the northern USA bogs; not this far south).  My understanding is that your cranberries are a different species.

When we were much younger, in Indiana, my brother grew pitcher plants, sundews, etc. in an artificial sphagnum bog garden.  He had some cranberries that started growing in his bog, and they produced a few berries here and there.

I knew they liked damp ground, but not a bog

I dont have a bog, in fact my garden is pretty dry most of the time, but it never suffered during the hot summer we have just had, okay the grass turned brown, but it does that most summers, but it comes back after a drop of rain

Then its cutting it on a weekly basis

I have found and bought two of these, I'm going to plant them in a wooded container, put in fresh compost and let em get on with it

They are supposedly a couple of years old, so maybe next year we might have cranberries

They have arrived and now in a wooden barrel type pot, I bought two plants (maybe they enjoy a bit of company)
The way the seller sent them to me was rather a novel way
A 2 liter bottle, bottom cut off and the plant put in the bottom, with a bit of compost in them, then gaffer taped up
It took 3 days to arrive, it looks pretty healthy and there are very few dead leaves in there

(still havent seen any cranberries in the shop's though)

Tesco had fresh cranberries yesterday.

I hope they have some in my local Tesco's  tomorrow, even frozen ones
