BROODY?
« on: November 02, 2009, 11:57 »
I have a silkie hen approaching 30 wks old. She has not started laying yet but seems to have gone broody preferring to stay in the coop no matter what. She seems ok in every other respect - when turfed out she is eating and drinking - could she be starting puberty and have gone hormonal in advance of laying!!
The weather has been poor - but even on sunny days the other two hens have closed ranks and like to watch over her!!!
If all this is normal- fine, it just seems such a shame not to enjoy life when the weather outside is fine!!

As ever, any useful advice is gratefully received!

 mine have never gone broody before coming in to lay..... they normally lay at least 3 eggs first
I've got 2 broody at the moment - they drive me mad and forever squabbling ::)
We have 17 chickens, 3 quail, 2 dogs, 3 cats and that's enough (for this week)
