Gone off lay?
« on: March 23, 2009, 16:40 »
One of our hens has stopped laying or at least I think she has.  I am uncertain as she has a habit of nipping into our neighbours garden everyday and then disappears.  We don't know where she goes and we have searched every hedge and bush in both gardens and beyond.  She always reappears back in our garden after half an hour or so.

She started laying in Oct last year and has been one of our best layers, she looks in excellent condition and eats well and there is no sign of her moulting yet.  Anyone have any ideas?

We have just acquired some 6ft high weld mesh on freecycle so we can get on and make an enclosed the run - that ought to stop her disappearing acts.

Thanks,

Anna

I had one that did that when I first started keeping chickens.  Saw her pop over the wall one day out the window and noticed she went under a ver overgrown bush.  Told next door and when we looked she had about 20 or more eggs under there.  It was a warren so no chance she was going to ever sit on them!  What a waste!!!!
