Sometimes with a really fresh load of bread, I stand it upright on the board and slice from right to left!  I always get a much straighter slice than if I slice downwards!

I do that occasionally and it drives " 'im outdoors" completely nuts!  he hates me doing it, offends his sense of what is right in the world ..   

What would a man know about what's right in the world?      If it works, do it!
