Petunias.

Now I've planted many a seed in my 36 years on this earth but I have never, ever come across such a tiny tiny tiny wee seed as the petunia!!

There was me opening the packet "Oh yes approx 120 seeds ok" thinking the packet felt a bit odd and inside is a tiny test tube containing the smallest seed on the planet!

Has anyone sown these seed before?
Any advice as to how to manage them would be gratefully appreciated! :)

Bet there isn't 120 seeds in there! No way would I be able to count them! :tongue2:

Try Lobelia - 25,000 to the gram, as opposed to a mere 9,000 for the petunia!
Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?

I think I'll keep cheating with Lobelia and buy the young plants! :D

I only picked the petunias up because the local garden centre had all these seed packs at 25p or 50p each!

You could mix them with some fine, dry sand...should make them easier to handle/sow... :)

I used to fill plastic cups ( the vending machine type) with compost and sow a teeny tiny pinch of seeds in each cup - same method for petunias, lobelia and nicotiana  ;)

Lobelia is easy.

Last year I took a seed tray of compost, lightly tamped down. Placed one rule(r) in a little from the long edge of the tray and dribbled the seed along the edge using thumb and forefinger. Moved it an inch and repeated.

Result - about 8 straight rows of seedlings, easily pricked out in clumps into other trays/pots.

1/2 a packet of seed from Moles gave me 300+ clumps.
