Hiya! .... my corn is as high as an elephant's eye ..... however , the tassels that are sticking out of the end of the cob are very dark brown and all matted together , but the corn inside is very small and pale in colour and doesn't seem to be ready.

The tassels still inside the leaves are still very pale and don't seem to be getting any darker . I'm having a nightmare pulling the leaves back to actually get inside the cobs to take a look.

Anything I can do to help the corn inside to ripen up , or do I just have to sit it out and twiddle my thumbs and patiently wait for my first taste of my own grown corn ..... not so good with this patience thing !

Hi I think it's still a bit early yet, a way of testing if it is ready is if you squeeze one of the kernels and a milky fluid comes out then it's ready

To squeeze it though means you need to strip back loads of leaves is that okay, mine look dark but I just cant bring myself to take one and try

We had our first cobs last night - delicious.  My tassels were dark brown too and I read on here last week that they don't grow any further once they go this colour.  When I peeked inside the kernels looked tiny and dry.  Last night I was braver and stripped it back a little further.  3/4 of the cob were beautiful, just the top bit wasn't edible - not sure why though?

Anyway, if I were you I would strip one back a little further to see if they are the same as mine.  It would be awful to lose them because you waited too long.

The tassels should be very dark brown.  Yours are not ready yet as I can still see some yellow on them.

As usual , Thanks for all the replies. I will delve further into my biggest , fattest one later on today and see if it's better further down the cob , only peaked at the top of it so far!

Opened the cobs up further down and they are ready , so thanks for the advice

Feeling very pleased with myself as it is possible that I have grown the best tasting sweetcorn ever! 

Yum yum and I still have lots of cobs left
