Staffies
« on: November 16, 2012, 16:38 »
Just spotted this on the BBC News website.

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-scotland-edinburgh-east-fife-20344041

Nice to see something positive about this breed for once. We have a 2 1/2 year old Staffordshire who is daft as a brush, loves all people and is very submissive to other dogs, even those much smaller than her like Chihuahas. Wouln't trust her with the chickens though!

I have lost count of the times on walks when walkers & other dog owners have appeared pleasantly surprised when they see what she is like - an awful lot of people are under the impression that they are all aggressive, dangerous dogs.

Yes, I was reading that this morning. :) Scottish story so unless something very exciting has happened today, they may do a TV news item on it too.

Two Staffies have appeared on the dog warden list on Freecyle in our area this week. Both were found dumped  :(

My sister was looking for a lab to ´rescue´ all the rescue centers in Scotland had were Staffie or Staffie cross.
We have had a Pit Bull (minus it´s ears that were hacked off) at our rescue place- he is the most affectionate dog, he is a real softie.
Any dog has the potential to turn nasty, not just Pit Bulls, Staffie´s etc.  Our Rocky (the Pit Bull) gets castrated next week, we have to break the news to him

I have a staffie x ebt pup and there really is no difference in her attitude to my other 2 dogs. The rescue I support had a staffie party a couple of weeks ago to help raise awareness of how good these dogs can be.
Another good piece of news is that the police now have a staffie sniffer dog - see here  :D
Staffies are softer than you think.

Morrisons held a cutest pet of the year competition earlier in the year and the cutest dog was Martha a white Staffie who was adopted from Babbington Rescue in January by a friend of mine - she won vouchers to get a years supply of purina feed which was donated to the rescue  :D
The local press attended the hand over as can be seen here  :D

With proper training a Staffie as with all dogs will do anything for you and give you so much love in return.

Aaaaw bless 'em.  I've come across many staffies during the course of my work visiting families and I have always found them to be such loveable friendly dogs.  Never met a bad one yet.

Unfortunately their reputation mainly stems from the thuggies who wear them like a badge and treat them roughly when its really not in their nature.

Sadly I always get upset when watching it as I know so many Staffies are being put down every day - luckily the Rescue I support is a none destruct one.

Shows how biddable and soft they are, doing all that dressing up. I really do struggle seeing any dogs behind bars, I want to take them all home! :(
