Pumpkins
« on: June 17, 2013, 10:39 »
I planted out most of my pumpkins yesterday but I have two left over and nowhere really to put them.  The only place I have left over is a compost bin which I filled with fresh cow manure two weeks ago (was afraid it would be all gone come the autumn so I stock piled!!).  One of the lads on the site told me to put them in there as it would work as a hot bed but I wasn't sure - would it not be too harsh on the plants and just kill them off?

Make a hole in the top and fill with soil to plant into........the roots will find their way out into the manure when, hopefully, it's not quite so hot. It's certainly worth trying   :)

There's some threads on here about this subject.  The manure will slump down as it rots so make sure you pack the muck well up into the top of the bin or it could disappear out of sight  :D
